Paul Spencer - President
Mr. Spencer leads Bonsai Communities’ vision and execution. His background spans from entrepreneurial startup ventures in technology, real estate, medical, brokerage and software fields (self, private equity and VC) to running a global services regional division for a Fortune 200 company and VP of Business Development for a $300M public consulting and technology company. Mr. Spencer has received a patent for past product designs and hundreds of international copyrights. He lives off the grid in a self sustaining home, has a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and is the president of the board of a local non-profit.
Dave Marrs – Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Marrs is also the CFO of Geronimo Ventures, LLC, overseeing the financial aspects of various companies in Geronimo Ventures’ portfolio, including Bonsai Communities, as part of providing financial services for a pro-active family based in the Roaring Fork Valley. Mr. Marrs has over 12 years experience in Private Wealth Management, 2 years as Regional President of a Colorado Bank, 3 years in Public Accounting and 6 years in Real Estate Development/Finance. Mr. Marrs is very active in the community and serves on several local boards and committees.
Phelps Lane – Director 
Mr. Lane is the President of Victor 8, Inc., a family office in Denver, Colorado where he is responsible for managing the finances of the Lane family. As the chief financial officer of the Lane Capital Group, he personally manages the family’s real estate, private equity, and angel investments. Mr. Lane began his career in public accounting with a big 4 firm in Denver, working primarily in the energy and manufacturing sectors. Mr. Lane currently serves in advisory capacities to several startup businesses and holds a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy.
Jon Fredericks – Vice President of Land Planning
Mr. Fredericks heads our land planning and project management for the new communities, including TCI Lane Ranch and The Tree Farm in western Colorado. He has managed a variety of projects throughout the Rocky Mountain region in Utah, Nevada, Wyoming and Colorado. His experience spans the public and private sectors including planning and design within urban / new communities, streetscapes, parks and outdoor recreation, habitat restoration, and campgrounds. Mr. Fredericks’ focus lies in creating communities that form a seamless fusion between the natural and built environment, in which residents thrive while touching lightly upon the land. He spends his free time cycling, skiing and building his remote off-grid mountain cabin. Mr. Fredericks holds a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture and Certificate in Environmental Planning.
Bill Tofany – Vice President of Construction
Mr. Tofany’s experience spans more than 35 years in the residential and commercial construction industries. Mr. Tofany is skilled in the entire construction lifecycle from site work to skilled carpentry, project management, general contracting and maintenance. Mr. Tofany ran his own construction company for 13 years as president, is BEST Card Unlimited certified and has a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Sean Mahoney – Vice President of Materials
Mr. Mahoney heads our material research department, ensuring that we are leveraging quality, sustainable and healthy materials within our homes and communities. Mr. Mahoney is also involved in our construction management processes. His background includes design and management of municipal infrastructure improvement projects as well as project designs for various government agencies while employed with a top rated engineering design firm. Mr. Mahoney has a Bachelor of Science and Masters of Engineering in Civil Engineering. He lives in an energy efficient 1,500 sf home with his wife.
DNM Architect - Architectural Partner
DNM Architect, a San Francisco based architectural firm, specializes in efficient and sustainable designs while offering a complete range of services from planning and programming through design, documentation and construction administration. Bonsai Communities collaborates with DNM Architect to design inventive, sustainable and energy efficient homes in line with Bonsai Communities’ vision and design standards (link to Design Standards Overview). With equal experience in architectural practice and technology, the firm uses intelligent 3D CAD, energy analysis and advanced rendering software to aid in the design process. DNM Architect is an advocate of environmentally responsible building materials and methods as a means of reducing the energy and toxic chemicals used to both construct and operate buildings. DNM Architect's integration of technology and design not only improves the final architectural design, but produces documents faster and more accurately than more traditional methods
of practice.
Noble Design Studios - Landscape Architecture (sister company)
